Supernumerary Ministers
Our Supernumerary Ministers are those who have served the church and have now 'sat down' (Methodist term for retired) Many are active in preaching and pastoral work and we are thankful for their wisdom, experience and energy.

Within the Methodist Church, we have many Local Preachers. These are members of our church communities who have undertaken training to qualify as local preachers. They assist with leading weekly services across our circuit. Without them we would not be able to have weekly worship in all of our communities.
Local preachers are supported by the Circuit staff, District and Connexion. They undertake training and learning regularly. All our local preachers are DBS checked.
We are thankful for their committment, training, wisdom and calling to this role.

On Note
Before people qualify as a Local Preacher, there are 2 stages they travel through as part oftheir training. Firstly, they are given a note to preach which means the Superintendant minister has given authorisation for their studies to begin. Those on note are paired with an experienced local preacher who mentors and assists them with aspects of worship. They also begin their training course which seeks to develop their skills and calling as a local preacher.
Once they have reached the required level of training and experience, they then move to being 'On Trial' It sounds worse than it is! This means that they can now lead services without their mentor and further develop their calling.
