Advent Reflections 2020

Thursday 24th December 2020

For us, as Christians, the Advent season anticipates Christmas…the celebration of God coming to Earth as a baby…in the person of Jesus Christ.

The prophet Isaiah wrote “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned.”

Our world has been a dark and broken place for a very long time, but when Jesus came everything changed! Jesus told us…“I am the light of the world, whoever follows me will not walk in darkness.”

Lots of people will use an Advent Calendar, a wreath or even a set of candles to anticipate the arrival of Christmas, but…let’s contemplate…celebrate…and hopefully see the difference Jesus will make not just in our neighbourhood, but around the world this Advent and Christmas.

Hope … in a dark world is found in Jesus because he has conquered death!

Peace…is the deep desire of every human heart…and only Jesus can bring true peace!

Joy… is a rare commodity for many people.  Christians around the world living in some of the most desperate conditions have experienced what Jesus Promised, “As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you.  Now remain in my love…I have told you this so that my joy may be in you.”

Love…is too often conditional with us…until we meet with Jesus! His love can heal wounded hearts, mend broken relationships and restore hope.

Let us…not only talk the talk …but show LOVE in action!
