Advent Reflections 2020

Tuesday 15th December 2020

I love my Nativity scene and I love putting it up in Advent.

I spent many years collecting all the figures but sometimes I think what relevance has the crib got in these difficult times?

Where is the joy?

But of course there is real joy in the manger scene and in Baby Jesus.

'For unto us a child is born…..and He will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6-7)

We learn that any need we have in life can be answered by Jesus.  He is there as a counsellor when we have problems, if we listen.  He can remove obstacles that stand in our way – he will be our Mighty God. And on those days when we need love, forgiveness or healing he is our Everlasting Father and if we are anxious, he will bring us peace.  Jesus is there whenever we need him and that is something to bring us true joy.

So as we take the bubble wrap off our Nativity scenes, let us pause for a while and be thankful.

the representation of Jesus in the manger remind us of what he brought us, so so much and that should fill our hearts with joy.

He is not just any baby, he is a baby that brings joy into our very being, our soul.
