Advent Reflections 2020

Sunday 20th December 2020
 'We love because God first loved us.'
(1 John 4:19 CEB)

Of the many privileges that ministry brings is the opportunity to be able to baptise people into the family of God.  Each and every time I am struck by these words from our Baptism Liturgy service:

For you Jesus Christ came into the world;
for you he lived and showed God’s love;
for you he suffered death on the Cross;
for you he triumphed over death,
rising to newness of life;
for you he prays at God’s right hand:
all this for you,
before you could know anything of it.
In your Baptism,
the word of Scripture is fulfilled:
‘We love, because God first loved us.’.

Love is the outreach of God’s mercy that entered the created world as a baby. Love is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that transforms each one of us as children of God.

My prayer for us all, as we enter this last week of advent, is that we will live in that love, courageously committing ourselves to ensuring that love takes priority over all our responses one to another.
Rev’d Kim

‘Love shall be our token,
love be yours and love be mine,
love to God and all the world,
love for plea and gift and sign.’
